An evening that reveals the extraordinary musical connections between two masterworks separated by 60 years.

Program

• John Williams — Star Wars Suite (1997), including the Imperial March
• Gustav Holst — Die Planeten, op. 32 (1918), complete seven-movement suite

Star Wars fans will be amazed to discover how closely Williams drew on Holst: the Imperial March echoes Holst’s Mars, while Jupiter served as a template for the heroic themes of Superman, Gladiator, and Star Wars alike.
